There is no doubt that there are different embroidery machines readily available for purchase in the United Kingdom. Unfortunately, it is a very difficult task to figure out which machine you will be buying online because there are different options for you to choose from and some of these machines are complex in nature. Below you will find a quick summary of some of the recommended embroidery machines. Nonetheless, I have included one combined sewing and embroidery machine because it has automatic needle threader.

What is an Embroidery Machine?

There are two different types of sewing machine embroidery:

Most modern household sewing machines are capable of freehand embroidery. It actually involves having the feed dogs lowered or having them covered with a darning plate, setting the length and width of the stitch to zero, and guiding the fabric by hand through the machine to create embroidery designs. It is important you are aware of the fact that it can be done on entry-level machines like the Singer Promise 1409. All that is required is a darning plate and the correct presser foot.

Brother Innov-Is F440E

The Brother Innov-Is F440E is one of the affordable options of the embroidery machines in the market. The embroidery area for this machine is 5″ x 7″, compared to high-end machines, this machine is quite small. However, it is reflected in the price. The hoop size is 5″ x 7″ and it is a very common size, meaning that lots of design will be found for it.

This machine comes with a total of 11 fonts and 138 embroideries, and it has all of the basics of embroidery covered, including a USB port for transferring designs and a color touchscreen. It is important you are aware that it has a maximum speed of about 600 stitches per minute.

Brother Innov-Is 800E

This is another affordable machine that is decently priced, however, it has more functionality than the F400E model. It also has 11 built-in fonts and 138 inbuilt patterns. The embroidery area for the 800E model is 6″ x 10″, which makes it very small compared to the Janome Memory Craft 500E, but it is somewhat large when compared with the Brother Innov-Is F400E

The 800E also has a color LCD touchscreen, which is similar to the F400E model, but it a lot smaller when compared to the screens of high-end machines that are reviewed in our list. What this means is that it is somewhat fiddly when choosing designs. This model has a maximum speed of 850 stitches per minute.

Janome Memory Craft 500E

The Janome Memory Craft 500E is one of the renowned Janome’s embroidery machines. It features 160 in-built designs and 6 monogramming fonts, and using the USB port more can be added. The Memory Craft 500E is capable of 860 stitches per minute. This is fast for a machine of this price but compared to the Brother Innov-is V3 it is not that fast, but it is satisfactory.

This machine has a very large embroidery area, which is 8″ x 11″. Personally, I perceive this as one of the selling points if this machine. The Memory Craft 500E from Janome has a large touchscreen that allows on-screen editing. The large screen makes it easy to rotate, re-size and flip designs.
